SWAMI Vivekananda College swimmer and 2017 Pacific Youth Games squad member Rosemary Rova broke four records at the Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva yesterday.
The Year 10 student broke the U14 grade 400m individual medley, 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m freestyle records.
She clocked 1:00:82s in the 100m freestyle and 2:16:02s in the 200m freestyle.
Both records were set by Yat Sen Secondary School’s Matelita Buadromo in 2010 whose time was 1:05:24s for the 100m and 2:20:82s in the 200m freestyle.
Buadromo’s 400m individual medley record of 5:55:55 that was set in the same year was also broken by Rova who clocked a time of 5:29:08s.
However, Rova did not stop there and later broke International Secondary School Nadi’s Elly S Joyce’s 2010 record of 2:44:54s in the 200m backstroke event.
The 14-year-old SVC student clocked a record breaking time of 2:41:11s.
“I am privileged to break the records and to be a part of this competition. Not because I have been doing it for a long time but because it’s an honour to be a part of it,” Rova said.
When asked of her performance, she said: “I think I did OK, I did my best and I think that is all that we can do.
“I did not do as well as I expected but I am happy with the result.
She said this was a good platform for her to prepare for the upcoming 2017 Pacific Youth Games later this year.
“I think this is a good start. I may not be at my fittest but I am sure that I can improve,” she said.
