RKS Old Boys Suva are leaving nothing to chance as they prepare for a blockbuster Suva Rugby Koroturaga Shield semi-final against Army Red tomorrow.

Club President Taniela Tabua says the side had enjoyed a productive week of preparation, with players fully focused on the task ahead after identifying key areas for improvement following their quarter-final victory.

“Preparation has been going well. The boys have trained hard throughout the week and have stayed focused. We have worked on improving our game and making sure everyone is ready for Saturday,” Tabua said.

Tabua admitted there was still work to do after reviewing their previous performance.

“After the quarter-finals, we looked at our mistakes and focused on improving our discipline, defence, communication and finishing our opportunities. These are the main areas we have worked on during the week.”

Tabua expects a fierce contest against an experienced Army Red outfit, describing the military side as one of the competition’s toughest opponents.

“Army Red is a very strong and experienced team. We have a lot of respect for them because they are well-organised and physical. We know it will be a tough game, but we are ready for the challenge.”

He believes the outcome will be decided by which team can maintain discipline and capitalise on scoring opportunities.

“I believe discipline, defence and taking our scoring opportunities will be the key. The team that stays patient and makes fewer mistakes will have a better chance of winning.”

Ahead of the must-win encounter, Tabua’s message to his players has been simple.

“I have told the players to believe in themselves; trust the work they have put in and play for each other. If they give their best for the full 80 minutes, the result will take care of itself.”

Beyond this weekend’s semi-final, Tabua said RKS Old Boys remained committed to developing players capable of progressing to provincial and national rugby.

“RKS Old Boys plays an important role in developing players. It gives them a chance to improve their skills, gain experience and prepare for higher levels of rugby.”

He also acknowledged the unwavering support from former RKS students, families and fans throughout the season.

“Their support has meant a lot to the team. It motivates the players and gives them confidence. We are thankful to everyone who has stood by us throughout the season.”

Looking to the future, Tabua said the club’s vision was to build a sustainable programme centred on youth development and consistent success.

“I see the club becoming even stronger by developing young players, building a good team culture and consistently competing for championships while producing players for higher levels of rugby.”

Tabua also called on supporters to rally behind the side for Saturday’s crucial semi-final against Army Red.
