ALL eyes will be on defending champions Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) as they begin their defence of the coveted U18 title in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Dean’s competition.

Their commanding 52-15 victory against rivals Nasinu Secondary School in last year’s competition has set a very high standard for this year’s team.

For Esira Batisoso, who leads RKS’s U18 title defence campaign, a strong performance against Sila Central High School is crucial to kick-start their title defence.

“As we prepare for our opening match this weekend, the message from our coaches is clear,” he said.

“Listen carefully, follow instructions, and ensure we execute our game plan properly on the field.”

The magnitude of the task is not new to the Nalotawa, Yawe Kadavu native and his team, most of whom were part of RKS’s champion U17 squad last year.

They said their preparation has been intense leading up to the competition.

“Preparation at school has been going well. We’ve worked extremely hard to address the mistakes we made during our preseason games to ensure we are ready for this new rugby season,” he added.

RKS will host Sila Central College at their school grounds in their opening fixture today.
