Shots heard on Sunday night by residents of Nabua and nearby areas was part of a training exercise by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).

In an earlier advisory, the RFMF had informed the public that it would be conducting a training exercise in the vicinity of Fiji Training Group camp, Makoi, Colo-i-Suva and Delaikobalevu from Monday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

“The exercise will involve the movement of troops and the use of blank rounds and pyrotechnics to simulate battle noise,” the RFMF said.

Residents had reported hearing what sounded like gunshots on Sunday night, prompting questions about possible security incidents before authorities clarified the source.

The military has advised members of the public to avoid areas where the exercise is being carried out during the specified period.

“The RFMF has ensured that all safety measures have been considered prior to the exercise.”
