THERE is a renewed sense of belief within the Rewa Rugby Union camp as the province begins preparations for the 2026 Fiji Rugby Union competitions.

Backed by sponsor FMF Foods Limited, Rewa has wasted little time in setting its plans in motion ahead of the Vanua Championship campaign, which begins later this month.

In a statement posted on the union’s Facebook page, officials described the campaign as “a new dawn for Rewa Rugby” as the side aims to secure promotion into the expanded Skipper Cup competition.

The Fiji Rugby Union has increased the Skipper Cup from 10 to 12 teams this season, with two promotion spots available through the Vanua Championship.

Rewa said preparation was not only focused on results on the field, but also on rebuilding the foundations of rugby within the province.

“Our domestic competition is gaining momentum and hearts,” the statement said.

“Our players and officials are growing, learning and staying the course. We firmly believe that mastering the simple things, with discipline and heart, will set us on the path to a triumphant season.”

As part of its build-up, Rewa hosted Naitasiri Rugby Union in a friendly match at Burebasaga Ground yesterday at 3 pm.

The union is also using rugby as a platform to reconnect with the wider community.

Among the initiatives announced are special access for persons living with disabilities to attend Rewa matches this season, community work in Lokia Village ahead of the Bose ni Yasana meeting in July, and ground improvement works at Burebasaga District School.

“Rewa has returned — united in rugby,” the union said.

“The season ahead will be demanding, but with your support, your prayers and the generous sponsorship of FMF Foods Limited, we will face every challenge with confidence and pride.”
