KAJAL Lata has proved that success is possible if the heart is willing.
This, after she was awarded the dux award of Shiri Gurunanak Khalsa Secondary School in Labasa.
Kajal had every reason to smile yesterday as she proudly received her shield with her mother Sashi Lata from the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.
The proud Year 13 student of Tuatua in Labasa described yesterday’s event as a very proud moment for her and her family.
“Being supported by a single parent, seeing my mother sacrifice her life and time for us gave me that extra reason to put in all my efforts,” she said.
“Coming from a poor family that depends on the meagre money earned from my mother’s work as a house girl within my neighbourhood.
“I believe that everything is possible if the heart is willing.
“I am the eldest of three children and I am proud to be a good example to my two siblings who are twins.”
Ms Lata aspires to be an economist and hopes to pursue this dream at the University of the South Pacific next year.
“It will be a new experience and I look forward to the new challenges that I will face next year.”
Mrs Lata said she was proud of her daughter’s achievements.
