The Rewa under-16 girls football side defeated Suva 2-0, in the weekly Digicel Fiji Girls under- 16 league competition, at the Fiji Football Academy grounds yesterday.

The U16 team maintained an impressive stance throughout the match, fielding dynamic performances that kept the capital city side winless for the entirety of the match.

Rewa team manager Marama Matila was in high spirits when interviewed and reflected on the team’s progress and subsequent victory.

“We’re happy that we came up with a good team and we beat them with tuning,” Matila said.

“We’re proud of our girls today, at least they are doing something better than the last time.”

Matila referred to the side’s 0-1 defeat by Suva, noting their playing form being the catalyst of yesterday’s victory.

“We just told our backs, to understand the game, don’t dribble around in the thing. If the ball comes back, they have to clear the ball and not dribble around in there,” she said.

While the team has no future plans at present, Matila says they will await further correspondence by the Fiji Football Association on what will occur in due course.

She added the team was always consistent in their preparation and acknowledged the support of families, parents and guardians and well wishers who came out to support the side during their game yesterday.
