THIS poem is inspired by the chime of a rooster in the distance outside my bedroom window each morn.
Later, a family member who dwells in the countryside abroad, disclosed the fondness of her children of a rooster in their collection of farm pet animals and thus, I composed the poem in honour of their rooster pet, by the name of Kookie.
People refer to the morn chime of a rooster as a ‘crow sound,’ which is vocalised by a high- decibel, prolonged sound that can be heard clearly over the distance of the dawn.
My reference and preference of their ‘crow sound’ as a chime is an acknowledgement of the sacred and supreme duty of such a sentient being as an alarm clock of nature.
Although roosters do not only and always awaken their flock at sunrise, their internal circadian clock is a natural chime clock at dawn that throughout time, has awakened people to a new day.
Sometimes, it is a pet animal who reminds their owner that breakfast is to be served with the sunrise!
Even a sundial crafted in simplicity through history is a clock as harmonious as nature.
The morn chimes that exist in equilibrium to the rhythmic resonance of the serene sounds of nature are parallel to the energy fields (aura, chakras and similar frequency fields) of the human mind and body, which is by creation itself, parallel to the frequency of earth.
Blessed be the land where the alarm clocks of nature are still revered — from the call of a rooster; the beat of a wooden drum (lali); a choir of birds singing at the sight of dawn to bells ringing from a church steeple or a monastery in the mountain.
The human energy fields are influenced by various states of (well) being — mental, emotional and physical states and their mutual alignment influences sleep patterns, states of mood and brainwave frequencies, which promote the vigour and vitality of positive health.
The placid tones of the chimes of nature — even a high- frequency chime of a rooster — serves to refresh and rejuvenate the mind and body in sleep for a new day because of their rhythmic resonance.
At each sunrise, my eyes awaken to the chime of a rooster in the distance, proceeded by the morn melodies of birds in the vicinity of my garden.
I am awake to offer my salutations to the sunrise and seek the blessings of the birds flying around me.
Nonetheless, it is the chime of the rooster that truly awakens my appreciation to the wonders of the natural world.
The soulful voice of a solitaire rooster in the distance to remind me to arise from slumber, is a most magical and mystical chime to activate my mind and align my mindfulness to my environment.
I can only imagine the beauty and blessing of a rooster chime in the vicinity of a farmhouse, where a family awakens together, prays together, attends to their chores together and stays together.
Likewise, a rooster whose chime can be heard at nightfall is often a signal of a period of personal and spiritual transformation.
Kookie the rooster
The antics and anecdotes of Kookie the rooster on his farmland, was the inspiration for the other portion of the poem.
As relayed by the family, Kookie will be perched upon the farmyard gate — prefect of his property — to oversee the other farm animals or parade the length of the porch as proud as a peacock to monitor the morn and ensure that there is no friction amongst the flock and family in his care.
Such an enchanting childhood experience for the children of the family.
The precious and priceless moments and memories they will forever cherish.
The discipline, dedication to duty and awareness of the divinity of nature they will forever appreciate.
The skills they acquire upon their farmland through the seasons will be their travel companion as they sail through the journey of life.
Indeed, all the sentient animals on their farmland are nature’s teachers and the lessons they learn are sacred and supreme, as the education system of nature always is.
