NAIBUKA Ratubola’s commitment and work ethic was acknowledged when he scored five nights at the iconic Castaway Island Resort in recognition of his efforts as a grounds keeper at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort.
Mr Ratubola scooped the Employee of the Year — Back of House award at the Outrigger Fiji’s annual staff awards ceremony last Saturday.
Resort general manager Peter Hopgood said Mr Ratubola was acknowledged for his diligence because the 39-year-old Taqage Village resident hitchhiked at 4.30 am every morning just to ensure he got to work on time.
For Mr Ratubola, working at the Outrigger was a dream come true.
“I have worked at the InterContinental Fiji resort, Kula Bird Park, Maui Bay and Hideaway Resort, but none of those places can beat the Outrigger Fiji because we have the best boss — general manager Peter Hopgood and the best staff in the whole of Fiji,” he said.
Other award winners were Jerry Takala — Employee of the Year Front of House, Tamarasi Ratulevu won Supervisor of the Year, Outrigger Fiji’s Engineering team for Community Project of the Year and the Department of the Year award went to the kitchen crew.
The Sporting Team of the Year award went to the Outrigger Cheerleaders for their colourful efforts at various sporting events, including the Coral Coast Sevens rugby tournament.
