PROFESSIONAL boxer Renold Quinlan who has maternal links to Fiji was given a good workout yesterday at the Suva Boxing and Fitness Centre.

The Australian boxer, who defeated Joseph Kwadjo in 2013, is in Fiji until tomorrow and during this time he has been training at Napoleon Taumoepeau’s gym in Toorak.

Yesterday, brothers Jonathan and Winston Hill had a sparring session with the prize fighter and to the delight of Quinlan, he was given a good workout.

“These boys are good. I can tell you it was a good workout. I have been told that boxing in Fiji is on a low at the moment but if there is talent like Winston and John, then the sport should be revived,” Quinlan said.

“I am willing to fight a charity bout in Fiji, if this means injecting some life into the sport.”

Quinlan’s next fight is on April 10 where he fights in the middleweight division, moving down from supermiddleweight.

In December last year, Quinland narrowly lost out to Jake Carr on points but he is back and claimed he was better.

“I plan to keep on fighting and as long as God allows me too.

“My next fight is against Steve Moxon in Brisbane. It will be the main event.”

While in Fiji, Quinlan had a chance to meet his maternal grandfather Sailosi Vatubua, a former amateur gold medallist for Fiji.

Quinland, who fights out of Anthony Mundine’s camp also brought a gift for the Boxing Commission of Fiji, a pair of boxing gloves worn by Mundine.
