Underdog Josevani Rawavatu blazed the tracks of Laucala Bay as he took out the senior boys 100m blue ribbon and backed it up with a second gold in the 200m finals of the Triple N Zone.
The Bhawani Dayal Arya College flyer ran a time of 10.93 seconds in the 100m sprint, sending an early warning to his competitors come the Coca-Cola Games on May 2-4.
He dominated once again in the 200m with a time of 22.44s.
While it marked a historic moment for Bhawani Dayal, it had a personal significance for Rawavatu.
“I didn’t come here expecting to win, I just came to compete,” he said.
“When I got to the finishing line, I could only picture my parents faces because they have been my biggest supporters. My dad has been battling arthritis for three years and I just want to make him proud.” The Fiji Finals is not a new territory for Ramaraca.
“I’ve competed in the Fiji Finals three times and I was unlucky. Last year I came third in the heats, I looked up to the stands, I saw my dad standing there with his walking stick, that gave me motivation, that moment lives in my memory because I have to win for him.”
The Drobuta, Tokatoka in Tailevu sprinter added from now until the Cokes, it’s about remaining humble and committed to his training.
He also ran in the senior boys 4x100m finals.
