MINISTER for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu says it was appropriate for the Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations to focus on children, schools, and youth development.
Speaking at Wairuku Primary School in Rakiraki Mr Vasu said Government is proud to have assisted in the completion of the $45,000 Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial Library.
“The completion of this important project as part of our commitment towards the Ratu Sukuna Day Celebrations 2026 and in preserving the legacy of Ratu Sukuna,” he said.
Mr Vasu acknowledged the efforts of the school management, teachers, parents, community members, development partners, the Library Services Division of the Ministry of Education, and sponsors who contributed towards making this project possible.
“Your support reflects the shared responsibility we all have in investing in education and our future generations.
“Ratu Sukuna firmly believed that education was the foundation for progress and empowerment.
“He understood that investing in young people and education was essential for the future of Fiji.”
He said the establishment of the library was more than just a building.
“It is a place where young minds will learn, grow, discover knowledge, and dream beyond the boundaries of their classrooms.
“A library is a quiet place, but it can produce very powerful voices.
“To the students of Wairuku Primary School, this library now belongs to you.
“Use it well, read widely, learn continuously.
“Let this place inspire you to become future leaders, teachers, doctors, civil servants, and responsible citizens of our beloved Fiji.”
