THE Weet-Bix Raluve Competition, Fiji’s premier rugby tournament for girls, was successfully launched yesterday at the Suva Grammar School Hall in Nasese.
This year, the competition is set to grow even bigger and better, with more schools confirmed to participate.
Chief guest Koli Sewabu, CEO of Fiji Rugby Union, described the competition as the cornerstone of women’s rugby in Fiji, unveiling new female rugby talents through fierce contests fuelled by school pride, rivalry, and passion.
“This is where dreams take their first run, and this is where the future of Fijian women’s rugby is shaped, score by score, player by player,” he said.
“For us, this competition means more than school pride and trophies; it is a vital pathway for young women like you to earn a spot in elite teams that represent Fiji on the world stage.”
He added that rugby has also become a sustainable career, whether as a player, official, or in a supportive role.
“Our current Fijiana, who also play for the Drua in Super W, are full-time contracted rugby players. Rugby has become a career that can uplift you, your family, and your community.”
Major sponsors CJ’s Patel Group, through Sanitarium Weet-Bix and Rewa Life, reaffirmed their ongoing four-year commitment to supporting grassroots rugby.
Group Marketing Manager Monisha Prasad highlighted the positive impact the tournament has had on young girls, creating strong role models.
“Rugby is more than just a sport in Fiji; it is a powerful platform for learning essential skills such as teamwork, resilience, and discipline. It fosters friendships and community spirit,” she asserted.
“For young athletes, it offers the chance to dream big for themselves and discover how far their dedication can take them, both on and off the field.”
The first rounds of the Raluve zone competitions began last week, with round two set to kick off this Saturday.
