RETAINING the title is Raiwaqa Basketball Club’s sole objective going into the Vodafone Basketball Fiji Cup Championships.

The 2026 Vodafone Basketball Fiji Cup Championships is taking place from today until Saturday at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.

Club veteran and pioneer Waisea Uluivanuavatu says preparations have been encouraging as the club’s teams continue to fine-tune their combinations ahead of the three-day tournament which starts today.

The Raiwaqa club will be represented by defending men’s champions Boston, women’s defending champion Dynamic Redz, development team Mighty Mights and Iconic Redz.

Uluivanuavatu said players had shown commitment throughout their build-up despite balancing work, studies and family responsibilities.

“From what I have seen, the players are well prepared and they are making every effort to attend training,” he said.

“We have been focusing on combinations, defence and most importantly improving our basketball IQ.”

Boston and Dynamic Redz enters the tournament as the defending champion after claiming last year’s title and Uluivanuavatu said expectations remained high.

“As always, when we enter any tournament, we want to win. We want to retain the title.”

He said Raiwaqa’s strength had always been its mental toughness and aggressive style of play, qualities that had become synonymous with the club over the years.

“Raiwaqa is known for being mentally tough and aggressive, but we also need to continue improving our basketball IQ because the game is becoming smarter and more competitive.”
