Rain is expected to spread across Fiji from the west later today, with forecasters warning of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms across most of the country by Wednesday.
The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi states a trough with associated cloud and rain, currently lying west of Fiji, is gradually moving eastwards and is expected to affect the group later today.
Before the rain arrives, cloudy periods and some showers are forecast for Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Udu Point, Taveuni and nearby islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby islands, while the rest of the country is expected to remain mainly fine.
The weather office says conditions will be cool overnight, with moderate easterly winds, fresh at times, and moderate seas.
The outlook for Wednesday is for occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms over most parts of Fiji as the trough moves across the country.
Authorities are advising the public to monitor the latest weather updates, particularly those in flood-prone areas, as heavy rain could lead to localised flooding.
