QUEEN Victoria School’s (QVS) under-18 title hopes may have ended at the national quarter-final stage, but the school’s wider campaign remains alive with four teams through to the semi-finals of the Vodafone Super Deans Competition.
QVS will contest the U14, U15, U16 and U17 semi-finals this week, giving the school four opportunities to reach the national finals.
The continued presence of the four teams reflects the broader approach outlined by QVS principal Wailiki Nasau before the national knockout stages, when he said the school’s focus was no longer limited to success in the Eastern Zone.
“The focus now is not only like, you know, to be to the zone only, it’s our road to the national quota,” Nasau said.
He said QVS had also taken its preparation to another level compared with last year as the school looked to meet the growing standard of secondary school rugby across the country.
The U14 side will face Mahatma Ghandi Memorial School at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, while the U15 team meets Ratu Kadavulevu School at the same venue.
In the U16 grade, QVS faces Marist Brothers High School, while the U17 side takes on Suva Grammar School, both at HFC Bank Stadium.
For QVS, the four semi-final appearances provide an opportunity to turn its wider national ambitions into results, despite the early exit of its U18 side.
