PYRAMID schemes are illegal and anyone organising or participating in them will be charged, says Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Minister Faiyaz Koya.
In a statement issued yesterday, he said those caught would be charged under Section 87A of the FCCC Act. Mr Koya issued the stern warning after reports of Fijians participating in ‘get rich quick’ schemes surfaced in the past few days.
“The road to participating in a gifting scheme is often paved with sound-good intentions and clever branding like ‘Women Empowering Women’, ‘Circle of Friends’, or ‘Secret Sister’ and so on — but just because it is called a gifting ‘circle’” does not make it one and I am stressing again that it is illegal,” said Mr Koya.
“This is a pure hoax and no Fijian should participate in these schemes.”
