Citizens must become more security conscious as Fiji and its criminal activities continue to develop.
Speaking to the media recently, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe says protecting communities requires the involvement of the public, as police alone cannot address issues such as theft and drug-related crimes.
ACP Vusonilawe said members of the public needed to provide information and take greater precautions in their daily activities.
“The Fiji police cannot fight these issues alone,” he said.
“We need the assistance of everybody. Public, individuals to give us information and assistance in all areas.”
ACP Vusonilawe said some citizens had become careless and continued to view Fiji as it was in previous years, despite the country’s development and changing security environment.
“People think that Fiji is still the same from the previous years till now. We are in a developing country.”
He said people needed to be more aware of security measures and understand that maintaining safety required a collective effort between police and communities.
“So don’t think that police can do everything. We need each other. We do things together. So that we can provide safety in our nation.”
