People are becoming more comfortable talking about issues relating to men’s health, says BSP Life Fiji managing director Michael Nacola.
He made the comment after an information session run by representatives from the Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club (SGORC) at the BSP Life headquarters in Suva yesterday.
Mr Nacola said BSP Life had been supporting the SGORC on the Movember campaign for a number of years now.
“It’s basically to support the advocacy work that they’re doing,” he said.
He said BSP Life was pleased with the progress that was seen through the company’s support for the Movember campaign, and similarly for Pinktober.
“We’ve identified that breast cancer in women is a large problem and early detection is very important, the focus on that is in October, so November is something similar but focused on men’s health and so we’re very pleased with the progress because we’ve seen that over the past few years the momentum has steadily built and now it is becoming a bit more open.
“It obviously a very sensitive subject for men to talk about, but given the momentum that’s been developed through this program people are becoming a lot more comfortable, they understand its importance, they understand the criticality of getting detected early, at least in getting screened so that if you have the problem it can be addressed early.
“Not let it fester and become a bigger issue later.”
