THE launch of the Kimaya Brighter Minds program in 2025 has since resulted in the successful development of children aged between five and 15 years.
In a statement, Kimaya Fiji revealed its most recent initiative was in Vaturu District School in Nadi where the Kimaya Brighter Minds program was introduced.
Speaking at the second annual Kimaya Brighter Minds Charity Golf Tournament at the Natadola Bay International Golf Course on June 13, school headteacher Anaseini Qeleca said there was noticeable improvement in classroom participation, confidence, and learning.
The golf tournament was held to raise funds for the Kimaya Brighter Minds program.
“We were constantly looking for ways to help our students become more focused, more confident and more engaged in their learning,” Ms Qeleca said.
“When we were introduced to the Brighter Minds program, we saw an opportunity to provide our students with something truly different.”
Through the training provided by the Kimaya Brighter Minds Trust, Ms Qeleca said teachers were well equipped with new techniques and tools that helped students improve their concentration, memory, confidence, and emotional well-being.
“What makes the program particularly special is that it focuses not only on academic achievements, but also on helping children develop important life skills that will help them improve their learning.
“Many of you may not know that Vaturu District School still operates as a public facility for students who travel from very remote communities, 30 to 40 kilometres away.”
Ms Qeleca said maintaining the school boarding unit was often challenging particularly because of the limited resources.
“Through the generosity of the Trust and the support of our fellow students, we have benefitted through the donation of beds and food rations.
“For many of our students, the boarding facility is their home away from home, and these acts of kindness can provide them with greater comfort, good living, and a better future.”
Ms Qeleca commended the sponsors,corporate teams that participated in the golf tournament as well as the donors.
“The impact of your support can be seen every day in the classrooms; the smiles of our students; and the confidence they are gaining as they learn and grow.”
Kimaya Brighter Minds Trust chairman Damend Gounder said their support had also extended beyond teacher training, including assistance to the school through the provision of beds and food rations for its boarding students.
“The aim of Brighter Minds is to improve and equip every child with the tools and methods to enhance cognitive functioning skills to achieve personal excellence and instil confidence in oneself,” he said.
“This year, 230 teachers from schools across Viti Levu will undergo training by experts from India and the program is expected to reach about 3000 students.”
