THE deputy chairman of the Fiji Sports Council Peter Mazey said investigations into the council have concluded, with findings from the main report clearing Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru of wrongdoing.

Peter Mazey said two separate reports were prepared by consulting firm Pherrus, including one specifically on Mr Saukuru which was presented directly to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

“The findings of the main report, that we will release to you later, the minister was innocent of that, he didn’t know any of the causes,” he said.

He said the final report into the Fiji Sports Council was received on Thursday and had since been forwarded to the minister.

“The investigation has concluded, and we have received the report, the final report from Pherrus on Thursday.

“We went through the findings of the report, and a copy of the report has been sent to the minister.”

Mr Mazey said the report would now undergo legal review before the full findings were publicly released.

“On Monday we have to put through the report to the lawyers, there’s a number of issues that needs a legal review on.

“After we get that back we will be able to have a proper press conference and release the full outcome of the terms of reference that you will all see.”

Mr Mazey also confirmed the Criminal Investigations Department was conducting a separate investigation into the matter.

“CID is involved in its own investigation, not in our investigation.

“It had a search warrant and had taken a lot of files from the Sports Council.”
