Fiji’s new High Commissioner to India is Kamlesh Prakash.

He was Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and his new posting has been confirmed by the acting permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan.

Mr Karan said the posting is part of a reshuffle that occurred after five diplomatic missions were closed as announced in the 2020-2021 National Budget.

“We have restructured all our missions and where we saw we needed to reduce the number of diplomats, we have done that,” he said.

“We have reviewed the KPI’s (key performance indicators) for all heads of missions after COVID.

“These were taking into account all the challenges under the new normal.”

Mr Prakash remains in UAE and preparations are being made for him to travel to India for his new posting.

He will replace former High Commissioner Yogesh Punja, who ended his posting in New Delhi recently.

Former permanent secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua, has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the UAE.
