A partnership between the Government and the local community has delivered upgraded school facilities aimed at providing students with a safer and more conducive learning environment.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Draiba Primary School hall in Suva yesterday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the project, valued at $58,048.66, was jointly funded through the Office of the Prime Minister’s Small Grant Scheme and the school community.
Mr Rabuka said the project reflected the true meaning of solesolevaki — working together for the common good.
“It is a very powerful demonstration of what can be done when the community and Government, or government agencies, help to build lasting indications of progress with our contribution to future progress,” Mr Rabuka said.
He said while the term solesolevaki had become widely used in recent years, the completed project was a practical example of the concept in action.
“This project is a very good demonstration of the solesolevaki spirit.”
Mr Rabuka said the commissioning reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring all children had access to quality education facilities, regardless of where they lived.
“Today’s commissioning reaffirms your Government’s commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of whether they live in urban or rural and maritime areas of Fiji, has access to safe, modern and quality learning environments that will support their future potential.”
Mr Rabuka said investing in schools was an investment in the nation’s future and thanked everyone who contributed to making the project a reality.
