THE FIJI Electricity Authority’s main power station in Drasa, Lautoka is operating on batteries and a representative said there would be a complete communications blackout if the generators were not turned on soon.
West manager Jale Lenoa made the statement yesterday while pleading for assistance from the Emergency Operations Centre West with the clearing of the road leading to the Lololo power station.
Mr Lenoa said if the link collapsed, FEA officials would not be able to get in touch with its main stations in Wailoa, Monasavu, the Central and the Northern divisions.
“That’s where all communications goes through from our national control centre,” he said.
“We have a generator on standby.
“We just need to have that access to the Lololo power station to power up the generator.
“The running of the generator will depend on the amount of fuel that we have.”
He said the power station was battery powered.
“Lololo is at the moment being powered by battery and the battery will last for about three to five days.”
He said they had been assured by the Fiji Roads Authority that the route would be clear from today.
