For all major events in Fiji, attendees can expect one thing to be constant and generously available and that is barbecue stalls.

Fast foods such as lamb chops and chicken barbecue, and submarine sandwich, more commonly known as ‘subs’ has become like a traditional food during these events as more and more food vendors opt to sell these.

However, the taste, what goes in each serve, and prices differ thus each stall would attract a different set of customers.

For the staff of Fiji Sports Council (FSC), currently operating a barbecue stall at the 2024 Coca-Cola Games, their message to those coming to watch the games on today is “come too our stall because the serve is too good as compared to the other stalls”.

“This stall is for our FSC staff and all the sales from here will go to our social club, for the staff,” said Ili Chute, the tennis facilities supervisor for FSC.

“Sales for yesterday (Thursday) was really good. Since this is our first time setting up stall, our target for the first day was to sell only 50 serves. We, however sold more than that.

“I think today (Friday) will also be a good day for us and we’ll sell a lot of serves. Our target is 100 serves and we’re positive we’ll meet it.”

Ms Chute said the stall was being manned by FSC staff and later in the afternoon, more staff would come to assist in preparing the following day’s ingredients.

“It’s not only the staff but even our CEO because everyone works together as a team here to prepare the stall for the next day.

“This is the first time for us to try out this – running and a stall, and maybe if all goes well, we’ll try out other events that’s held in our facility to help our social club.

“We’re trying to raise money for our annual Christmas party for the staff to go out somewhere so that’s our target for this year.”

Those intending to buy barbecue today at the grounds can find the FSC staff barbecue stall at the HFC Bank Stadium carpark.
