POLICE Blue wrestled the Esala Teleni Shield from Army Green with a 36-27 win after a close encounter at Buckhurst Park in Suva last Saturday in the latest round of the Suva Rugby Union’s club competition.
Police dominated the first half with a 27-13 lead.
Head coach for Police Blue, Bogivitu Gaunavinaka, shared preparation in the lead up to this competition went well regardless of the personal commitments players had.
“The boys were eager to come to training and to take back our property; the Esala Teleni Shield,” Gaunavinaka said.
Despite the win, he shared there was still more room for improvement in future matches.
“For the game today (Saturday), Army came in and almost gave us a heart attack,” he said.
“We need to sharpen up on our impact players, and continue the consistency of our game tempo,” he said.
He also described the match as a ’50/50 game’, with impact players not playing to their full potential.
However, he was thankful the team came out victorious in the end.
“This win really means a lot for the Police family. There are many issues happening today and we hope this win relieves them.”
“Whether they are in roadblocks, police posts or any other areas, this win is for you all,” Gaunavinaka said.
