Police probe latest cocaine discovery in Suva and Lau waters

A parcel containing white substances discovered on the Muanikau foreshore in Suva has tested positive for cocaine, as Fiji Police continue investigations into the latest suspected drug find.

Police say the parcel was found on Monday afternoon by two men walking along the foreshore, who immediately alerted authorities.

The package was recovered and analysed, with tests confirming it contained cocaine.

Investigators are now working to determine the source and intended destination of the illicit drugs.

Meanwhile, another suspicious parcel has been discovered in the Lau Group. Police say arrangements are being made to transport the package to Suva for forensic testing.

The Fiji Police Force has commended members of the public for promptly reporting both discoveries, saying timely information has been critical to the recovery of suspected illicit drugs.

Police are urging the public to continue reporting suspicious parcels, activities and unusual maritime vessel movements by calling the Crime Stoppers line on 1681.
