Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 30-year-old man at the Valelevu Health Centre, including claims that he was present during a raid allegedly carried out by members of the Joint Task Force.

In a statement, Police said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been directed to lead inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A post-mortem examination has also been ordered to establish the exact cause of death.

According to information initially gathered from medical officials, the man first presented himself at the Valelevu Health Centre on June 3, where he was advised to remain for further medical tests.

However, Police said he signed a discharge slip and returned to his home in Kinoya.

“Initial information gathered from medical officials is that the individual had presented himself at the Valelevu Health Centre on the 03rd of June, 2026 and was advised that he would need to be admitted to allow for the conduct of further medical tests.”

Police said the man returned to the health centre on the night of June 4 accompanied by family members after his condition worsened.

“Attempts made by health officials to treat his condition were futile.”

Authorities stressed that the information currently available is preliminary and remains subject to further investigation.

“The information gathered at these initial stages of inquiries are subject to further investigation.”

Police also confirmed that investigators are examining allegations linking the deceased to a recent Joint Task Force operation.

“The investigation is also looking into claims that members of the joint task force were involved in a raid where the individual was present.”

No further details have been released regarding the alleged raid or whether it may have contributed to the man’s condition.

Police said investigations are continuing and further information will be released once inquiries progress.
