THE Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection is looking into the case of two young children who were allegedly abused by a parent in Lautoka.
The case gained social media attention after a concerned neighbour prompted police and ministry officials to investigate the alleged abuse.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran confirmed an official inquiry by the ministry has been undertaken.
“The children have been safely removed and kept in a safe place for now while our officers are working on the case,” Ms Kiran said.
Meanwhile, police are investigating into the alleged abuse.
“The two children were removed from the said house and placed in the care of a relative residing in Lautoka,” a police report said.
“Despite the efforts of officials, the children’s mother did not want to leave with the children.
“The Fiji Police Force wishes to remind everyone that under the Child Care and Protection Act 2024, Failure to report Suspected Child Abuse is an offence.
“Members of the public are also urged to report issues against police service delivery to 1681, or send us a message, photos or videos via WhatsApp, Viber and Signal on 9905 922.”
