Police are maintaining silence over the current status of their criminal investigation into suspended Director of Immigration Amelia Komaisavai and several other immigration officers.
The investigation centres on the unauthorised issuance of Fijian passports to the children of two members of the Grace Road Church. Ms Komaisavai is believed to be on leave pending the final outcome of the investigation.
In February, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed investigators had received the complete case files back from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The ODPP had initially received the files in December, finalised its comprehensive review and analysis of the evidence against Ms Komaisavai and “a few others”, and subsequently returned the docket to the police alongside a summary of legal recommendations.
Following that February update confirming police were in possession of the ODPP’s recommendations, no further public detail had been released.
Enquiries sent on May 21 and again on June 4, to police seeking clarity on the final status of the probe, and whether any formal charge has been sanctioned, have received no response.
