POLICE are investigating an alleged attempted murder of a student at a prominent school last year.

Police confirmed the alleged incident occurred last year but no one has been charged.

The incident was highlighted by Assistant Commissioner of Police Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, Sakeo Ganivatu during a Christian camp in Lautoka recently.

ACP Ganivatu said a 16-year-old student allegedly told the victim to touch a live electric wire causing him to collapse.

“A senior boy came and told the junior boy to touch it,” ACP Ganivatu said.

“The junior told him ‘no, if I do, I will die’.

“The senior boy kept forcing him and the younger boy had no other choice. He touched it, got shocked and collapsed.

“He was rushed to hospital and fortunately he survived.”

ACP Ganivatu said the 16-year old boy may be charged with attempted murder.

When contacted yesterday, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said investigations into the incident were still ongoing and no suspect had been charged yet.

Questions sent to Education Ministry permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
