A major drug interception was carried out in Kadavu last night, as the Operations Sasamaki Team seized large bags containing parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana from a fibreglass boat in open waters.
According to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, the successful interception followed a tip-off regarding the transportation of illicit substances in the area.
“The operations team acted swiftly on information received and intercepted the boat during its journey,” said A/ACP Vusonilawe.
Five men were arrested during the operation and taken into custody along with the alleged illegal cargo. Investigations are continuing.
A/ACP Vusonilawe praised the ongoing cooperation between police and the public in the fight against drugs.
“As reiterated by the Commissioner, our focus on green and white drugs remains the same.”
“We encourage members of the public to continue sharing information through Crimestoppers on 919, or directly to your Divisional Police Commanders, or to me on 9904 905.”
Operation Sasamaki remains active across all five policing divisions and forms a critical part of the Fiji Police Force’s strategy to combat the production and trafficking of illicit drugs.
