Point Of Law has bolted in to win the Lexus Melbourne Cup in just his sixth career start and his second race on Australian soil.

The three-year-old colt, who won the Geelong Cup last month after arriving at the Ciaron Maher stable, flew home with Ethan Brown in the saddle.

Zahrann finished second and local runner Juja Kibo came third.

Royal Supremacy led by 20 lengths but faded late and missed a placing.

Ethan Brown has a great story.

He had a bad fall a couple of years ago and almost never made it back. He credits trainer Ciaron Maher for convincing him to come back.

He is almost lost for words after winning the Melbourne Cup aboard Point Of Law.

“Don’t wake me up,” Clipperton tells Billy Slater.

“Amazing feeling.

“It’s been a bumpy road, lot of challenges thrown my way… it’s days like this that it all pays off.”

Ciaron Maher trained the Melbourne Cup trifecta. That is insane. He is the first trainer to do that in 166 years of the Cup.

Point Of Law, Zahrann, and Juja Kibo all finish on the podium for Australia’s leading trainer.

They all managed to run down Royal Supremacy, who shot out to a huge lead.

“I knew I had my best hand going into it,” Maher says.

“I certainly didn’t know that Royal Supremacy would leave by that far. But nothing better than a true stayign test and Point Of Law, he’s just thrived.
