THE McDonald’s Nadi team captain Peni Naruma says the side remains determined to make its mark in the Farebrother Trophy challenge after suffering a heartbreaking 24-22 defeat to Cambridge Nadroga in the Skipper Cup final at Churchill Park in Lautoka last Saturday.
Despite missing out on the prestigious Skipper Cup title by just two points, Naruma has shifted his attention to the next major challenge, with Nadi named as the final challenger in this year’s Farebrother Trophy series.
Naruma said the team would await decisions from the coaching staff, management and executives on preparations for the challenge.
He acknowledged that the Farebrother Trophy was another demanding assignment but remained confident of Nadi’s chances.
“We are going to wait for the coaches, management and executives to decide on our preparation for the challenge,” Naruma said.
“Farebrother is a challenge. It’s a must-win game and It can be anybody’s game.
“It’s a challenge for us, and we are eyeing the Farebrother Trophy this year.”
Nadi will have to be patient as three teams get their opportunity to challenge for the prestigious trophy before their turn.
Ra will be the first challenger against defending holder Naitasiri, followed by Nadroga, while Tailevu will be the third challenger before Nadi gets its opportunity.
The opening challenge between Ra and Naitasiri will be held at 3pm this Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
For Nadi, the opportunity to contest for the Farebrother Trophy presents another chance to finish the season on a high after their narrow loss in the Skipper Cup final.
