PNG PM to commission K95m airport upgrade in Goroka

Listen to this article:

GOROKA – The K95 million (US$29 million) newly upgraded Goroka Airport in the Eastern Highlands Province gets commissioned today by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to take in larger flights.

Goroka Airport will now take in Fokker100 planes which will greatly benefit air travelers from Eastern Highlands and neighbouring Chimbu province who have depended on the smaller Dash 7 and 8 aircrafts.

There are no flights to Chimbu as its airport still remains closed reportedly due to serious structural damages to its runway and vandalism of the perimeter fencing around the facility.

The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Programme (Cadip). The contractor is China Overseas Engineering Corporation (Covec).
