A new standardised roadside stall aimed to benefit 256 vendors in the district of Namena in Tailevu was commissioned by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
The roadside stall stationed at Nananu Village is said to withstand Category 5 cyclones.
Mr Bainimarama said the new additional roadside stall was made possible through the long partnership the Fijian Government had with India.
Mr Bainimarama said every Fijian knows our roadside vendors and they know how important they were.
“Markets and stalls are where Fijians buy their food,” he said.
Mr Bainimarama said when market vendors did well, so did their communities.
He gave recognition to the women farmers in the country.
He said some 85 per cent of market vendors in the country were women and 50 per cent of vendors were selling what they produced.
Mr Bainimarama said there were 102 roadside stalls already built in the country.
India High Commissioner to Fiji Palaniswammy Karthigeyan said the occasion was a reminder of what the partnership India and Fiji could deliver.
The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport permanent secretary, Shaheen Ali, said the roadside stall concept was unique.
He said the project began four years ago by Mr Bainimarama.
