DENARAU-based Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa’s commitment to being a caring and responsible community partner saw about 25 staff members engaged in an environment conservation event yesterday.

Employees conducted a clean-up of the Nadi District School premises and the surrounding with school students as part of the program.

Sunny Goo, Sofitel Fiji’s executive assistant manager said the project was part of the resort’s Planet 21 program.

“Through Planet 21, we have carried out continuous mangrove planting,” she said.

“We are working more to raise awareness through children and we need to educate them on things they can do within their power, such as picking up rubbish.”

Ms Goo said Nadi District School was one of their partner schools and they participated in a number of activities together.

Apart from mangrove planting and environment clean-ups, Ms Goo said they would also revisit Navakai HART homes later in the month.

This month the resort also started its can collection program where non-perishable canned food items are accumulated and donated to impoverished families.
