GOVERNMENT is working towards the full digitalisation of 80 per cent of its key services by the year 2030, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce, Business Development and Public Enterprises Manoa Kamikamica.
Speaking during the opening of the two-day seventh National Conference on Information Technology (NCIT 2026) at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Mr Kamikamica said this target includes the creation of 40,000 ICT jobs across various sectors.
Efforts are also underway to achieve 50 per cent of 5G technology coverage while also rolling out and adopting the National ID within the same timeframe.
“These all require the right foundational work, which is already happening, the Data Protection Legal Framework is being put in place,” he said.
“We have completed the National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy that is built on eight core principles, where every person’s privacy comes first.”
Mr Kamikamica said the government’s policy is aligned to the only global data protection treaty, which the GDPR ( General Data Protection Regulation) is based on.
In the event of a cyber incident, Mr Kamikamica said the new National Computer Emergency Response Team is already getting organisations back on their feet and as a preparedness measure, facilitating cyber drills for different sector.
“Behind the scenes, a 24/7 Government Network and Security Operations Centre ensures that government networks and infrastructure are protected.
“Faster networks are reaching more of our people, as the universal service programme and 5G rollout continues to expand the country’s digital backbone. “The new National Cyber Security Website gives every Fijian one place to report harm, flag an incident, and find information on how to better protect themselves online.”
