The initial plans by Fiji Roads Authority to have roads up to New Zealand and Australian standard when it was established had not been achieved.
This, according to Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua, who was also the former Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
He said sending home 2000 workers at the Department of National Roads to make allowance for the reform of FRA was not an easy task.
He said the intentions of FRA when it initially started had not been achieved because of various reasons.
“The intentions of the reform were supposed to restart and ultimately our roads in Fiji are to be up to New Zealand’s standard or Australia’s standard by now — six years down, but that has not been and that is due to so many reasons,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“Let me say this from the outset that FRA has not been able, up until now, eight years later, to deliver the intentions of the reform for which it was created. “I want to make that very clear.
In response, Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate said the Opposition MP should have some indicators on what had improved about the road and what was yet to be improved.
