Langi Peters dropped all his farm tools recently and fastened his rugby boots lace again after three years as he returned to the rugby field in France.
Last played in 2018, Peters said he had some unfinished business in the sport before he would finally hang-up his boots.
He has a resident visa in France after 11 years of playing contract rugby in five clubs.
“At 39, I return to Fiji and was farming at Waibau, Naitasiri where I planted rootcrops and vegetables,” the former Tailevu tall timber said.
“I planted yaqona at my village in Matalolo, Labasa, on Vanua Levu and I decided to come back to one of my old clubs, Saint Sulpice La point Rugby on Federal 2 (French Rugby fourth division).
“The reason is to help boost what I am doing back home in Fiji after spending three years on farming.”
In his first return to rugby, Peters’ team lost 12-18 to Negrepelise Federal 2 which played in 10 divisions.
His club is in fourth spot of the competition.
“I’m here to play and earn some cash to help in the running of my farm. It’s an endless dream.
“I want to inspire young ruggers that there is nothing impossible if you keep trying.”
Peters is 42 and has represented Fiji as a lock forward.
He made his Test debut for Fiji against Samoa at Apia on July 9, 2005.
He played his last match for Fiji against Japan at Churchill Park in Lautoka on May 26, 2007.
He said he wanted to “keep doing what I love doing while I still can.”
