A NEW gymnastics club in Nadi aims to create more opportunities for children and young people to develop their skills and discover their potential through aerobic gymnastics.
Founded by Kunjal Nair, Kunjal Nair’s Aerobic Gymnastics Club will focus on introducing the discipline to the community while contributing to the development of gymnastics in Fiji.
Nair, who is also the founder and director of his own Wellness Foundation and Weight Management Clinic, is a board member of the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji.
He said his passion for gymnastics, fitness and promoting healthier lifestyles inspired him to establish the club.
Through his involvement in gymnastics and wellness programmes, Nair said he had witnessed how physical activity could positively influence people’s physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence and overall quality of life.
He said aerobic gymnastics offered an exciting opportunity to make the sport more accessible to a wider range of participants.
“Aerobic Gymnastics combines fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination, musicality, and artistic expression.
“I want to create an environment where athletes can discover their potential, develop discipline and confidence, and enjoy the benefits of being physically active,” Nair said.
The club plans to introduce a structured programme beginning with basic skills before progressing towards more advanced training and competitive opportunities.
Nair said the initial focus would be on identifying interested participants, establishing regular training sessions, developing coaching capacity and creating awareness of the sport within the community.
The programme is expected to cater for children, teenagers and young adults, with opportunities for beginners and those aspiring to compete at higher levels.
He also hopes to work alongside the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji, schools, coaches and other stakeholders to strengthen the development of the discipline nationally.
Nair said the club’s long-term vision was to develop athletes who could progress from recreational participation to national competitions and eventually represent Fiji at regional and international events.
Beyond sporting achievements, he wants the club to provide an inclusive environment where young people can develop friendships, leadership skills, confidence and resilience.
