Former Flying Fijians tall timber Langi Peters is making an impact in his return to rugby contract in France.
The 6fh6″ lock, who rejoined his St Sulpice La Pointe Rugby Club in Federal 2 division in France last month, has been a wonder to his teammates since his return.
“I am delighted to be back after taking a break at home in Fiji,” he said from France on Monday.
He helped his St Sulpice La Pointe team beat Argeles 39-33.
“My teammates which include Waisale Suka are happy with my return. I have been playing since then. Last week I came on in the last quarter and we managed to score two more tries. Suka also scored a try and set up another. My teammates said I had boosted our side on my return.”
Peters, is among the tall players Fiji has produced.
With recruitment of the Fijian Drua in progress and coming internationals, players of his height, built and experience would be a bonus in areas Fiji struggles in such as lineout and possession upfront.
“I am putting my hands up for selection if the FRU has an open door policy. I am happy that Fijian players now have a lot of better opportunities and now is the time for them to step up. The opportunity is here and grab it with both hands.”
He said Fiji had a lot of Fijian players in France that selectors could pick from.
“Fijian players are playing in almost all the 10 divisions here,” he said from France. He said the Flying Fijians team for the Northern Tour was a good selection.
