AFTER an intense selection process and rigorous training, the Fiji Pearls are applying the finishing touches to their squad as they prepare to strut their stuff on the court for the Spirit Series in Sydney, Australia next week.
The 12-member squad are the pioneering delegation of what has been heralded as a new era of change and reform at Netball Fiji, as they set out to take the first steps towards securing the Pearls’ place back in the top 10 of the world rankings.
For the past month, newly-appointed head coach Michelle Parsons has been hard at work with the Pearls, with training sessions at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva after selection being the catalyst to spark a change within their ranks and the wider netball fraternity in Fiji.
The parent body’s transition oversight committee, consisting of Vasiti Vugakoto, RubyAnn Sorovaki and Alumeci Vosararawa-Sachs have led the way in helping netball associations from around Fiji send their best players for selection, of which their strength and abilities made national selectors decide at great length who was fit to don the national jerseys.
Now, with that out of the way and training done, the Pearls depart Fiji with not just the goal of achieving what lies in the bigger picture but to foster a sense of camaraderie amongst themselves to help drive them on and off the court.
The Spirit Series will be held from next Wednesday until Saturday, July 11.
Netball Central, located within the vicinity of the Sydney Olympic Park will be the venue of the four day-event there.
