The National Federation Party (NFP) must look beyond its historical legacy and actively prove its relevance to the modern Fijian voter ahead of the 2026 General Election, says Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua.

Speaking during the party’s working committee meeting in Rakiraki on Saturday, Mr Tikoduadua challenged members to evaluate how the public perceived the party rather than relying solely on its internal identity.

With the general election just six months away, Mr Tikoduadua stressed that knowing who and what the party stands for is no longer sufficient to secure political viability.

He urged the party to develop its capability and competency moving forward to ensure it appealed to people who want to own the journey and align with the values the party projected.

Mr Tikoduadua said the best way to maintain loyalty to those who started the movement was to ensure the party functioned as a competent and capable institution relevant to the current political landscape.

“We are five members in a coalition and as such we are a junior partner also, this is not easy,” he said.

“We will not tell our stories. The NFP needs to know this is now the time that we need to define and redefine the values of this party in a way that does not belong to us only.”
