The proposed political party One Nation has submitted its application to the Fijian Elections Office for registration.

Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa said the group had previously applied under the name “FijiansFirst”, but the application was rejected because the proposed name closely resembled the deregistered FijiFirst party.

She said the rejection was made under provisions of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013, which prohibits names that are likely to be confused with deregistered political parties.

Ms Mataiciwa said preparations were now underway to publish One Nation’s application in a newspaper and in the Fiji Government Gazette, as required by law.

“During the objections period, any person may submit a written objection to the Registrar regarding the party’s application for registration,” she said.

She said a final determination on whether One Nation would be registered as a political party would be made after the objections process and assessment of the application.
