The trial of senior police officer George Lagi, who is charged with bribery, has been adjourned to August to allow his lawyer time to secure the attendance of a key defence witness currently in Australia.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne granted defence lawyer Joji Cakau’s application for an adjournment to enable one Divindra Bhagat to testify.
FICAC alleges that between October 1, 2012, and January 31, 2024, while serving as an officer with the Criminal Investigations Department, Mr Lagi accepted $6580 from Mr Bhagat in relation to the performance of his duties as a CID officer.
Bail was extended and the case adjourned to August 19.
