TOP athletes who excel at the Coca-Coal Games next week will be selected to represent Fiji at the Oceania Athletics Championships.
This has been confirmed by Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association acting secretary Biu Colati.
“For the first time, this Fiji Finals is the platform to pick our national team to represent us at the Oceania Games. That is the direction we are pushing into,” Colati said.
The acting secretary added it would not stop there for the athletes.
“Then, we would like the top athletes, around five or six of them, we will take them to the Queensland Schools competition.
“The reason why we are doing that is because we want to collect our top athletes and for the next four years, we want to have four sets of top athletes and take those 24 athletes to the Pacific Games.”
Colati said the aim was to breed athletes to win medals for Fiji in future.
“We do not just want to win here (Coke Games) but all the way for the nation as well.
“We have made every executive at the secondary school understand that we are not running the Games for the sake of running it but we are running it for the sake of the nation as well.”
The Coca-Coal Games will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium from next Thursday.
