The 35-50 defeat handed by the Waratahs following their win over the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in Suva left the 23-member squad displeased with the result.
That’s the word from co-captain Temo Mayanavanua in a post-match press conference after round 14 of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.
“We would like to apologise for the performance that we put up; it wasn’t good enough,” Mayanavanua told reporters.
A key area he pointed out in their reflection of the loss they were dealt with were the many fans who spent large sums of money to purchase tickets to see them play at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
“We, as players, are disappointed. Firstly because we have people in the club that have played a massive role such as Jacko (head coach Glen Jackson) here and move onto greener pastures.”
In acknowledging the result they were handed by the visitors in the presence of a packed stadium, he said what now became imminent were the next two games for the Fijian Drua before the end of the 11-team round-robin regular season.
“We want to do it for them; unfortunately we couldn’t. But the thing is, we have these two games in front of us to try and pull in tight to create history,” he emphasised.
“We’ve already done it against the Brumbies. We’ve already told the nation and we’ve basically showed the nation and showed it within ourselves that it is possible.
“So if the fans can back the boys up; we’re all hurting together as a team, as a nation, but I told the boys come on Monday (today), we’re ready to roll again.”
The Drua meet the Western Force this Saturday at 9.30pm at the HBF Park in Perth, Western Australia.
