The Northland side secured a hard-fought 21-13 victory over a spirited Northern Bulls team at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday, during the second round of the Vodafone Vanua Challenge.
At halftime, the Bulls held a narrow 8-6 lead, with both teams showcasing a high-intensity, expansive style of rugby that thrilled the fans in the stadium.
Northland came out strong in the second half, with inside centre Viliame Verelo crossing for a crucial early try. Maintaining discipline and composure, Northland managed to withstand the Bulls’ resilient comeback to seal the win.
Northland team manager Save Nevo praised his squad’s preparation and focus ahead of the match against quality opponents.
“We entered the game as underdogs and did not underestimate the Bulls, especially after their big win last week,” Nevo said.
“We kept our heads down, focused on our tasks, and we give thanks to the Almighty for this victory.”
Nevo highlighted the team’s improved second-half performance as a key factor in their success.
“We really wanted to improve on our second-half play, which was a major area of focus after our last game,” he explained.
“Today, we executed our plan well, maintained composure, and our impact players stepped up, lifting the intensity of the match.”
