Some landowners are objecting for extractions works to start at Mount Kasi Gold Mine in Vanua Levu.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo said he was aware of the nature and reasons of their objections.

“However, we have to follow what is required of us at the statute,” he said.

This came after he said in an interview that work at Mount Kasi would begin soon.

“Once we are satisfied that the checklist has been ticked, we will make an announcement,” he said.

Last year, the Vatukoula Gold Mines Pte Ltd (VGML) had applied for a special prospecting licence to start work at the site.

This after two years after winning a tender to mine at the Mount Kasi on Vanua Levu.

VGML had applied for a special prospecting licence on 59,526 hectares of land in the tikina o Kubulau, Wainunu, Wailevu, Sasa, and in the province of Bua, Cakaudrove, and Macuata.
